Both modems can be set up in an easy and simple way. The Netgear CM2000 provides a slightly higher downloading speed than that of its rival.
On the other side, Arris SB8200 is heavier making it less efficient in terms of handling.
The overall performance of both these devices is almost identical.
Moreover, both modems are installed with compelling chipsets Broadcom BCM3390, which provides much higher safety from these cyber offenses.
The powerful chipset decides the security against cyber-crimes like data hacking or any other related issues.
In comparison to SB8200, CM2000 has a higher downloading speed, is more elegant in design, and is easier to handle because of lesser weight. However, it comes with a much more expensive price, lower warranty duration, and covers more space due to its larger size.
Netgear CM2000 vs Arris SB8200 Overview
The Netgear CM2000 is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, the latest technology, enabling it to provide one of the fastest internet services.
This modern technology makes sure that it provides 2.5 times faster internet and 10 times higher downloading speed than that of the conventional DOCSIS 3.0 version.
There is a total of 32 downstream and 8 upstream channels in this modem enabling a downloading speed of up to 2.5 Gbps.
One 2.5 Gbps Multi-Gig Ethernet port and one WAN coaxial cable connection is present on the back panel.
On the other hand, the Arris SB8200, just like its counterpart, has the newest DOCSIS 3.1 version.
A total of 32 channels are available for downstream and 8 for upstream channels with a downloading speed of up to 2 Gbps.
The fast speed is perfectly suitable for streaming any 4K Ultra-HD video or any other Virtual Reality gaming. This modem is also equipped with two 1 Gbps Ethernet ports.
The installation process of this modem is also quite simple and easy as that of its peer.
|Downstream channels × Upstream channels||32 × 8||32 × 8|
|Ethernet ports||1 × Gigabit||2 × Gigabit|
|Downloading Speed||2.5 Gbps||2 Gbps|
|Warranty||1 year||2 years|
Hardware and Design
Netgear CM2000 has a plane towered-shaped structure that gives it a high-performance look.
There is a total of five status LEDs on the front panel mainly for power, downstream, upstream, online, and Multi-Gig Port in the similar top to bottom order.
The rear panel has a power button and one reset button while there are two ports available one for coaxial wire connection and one for Ethernet port connection. The label present on the modem shows its login information, MAC address, and serial number.
SB8200, on the other hand, comes out in a plain plastic case with a matte finish.
A thick plastic band encases the rectangular centerpiece while the edges of the modem are a bit rounded. Numerous holes on the sidewall ensure proper airflow through the modem thus assisting it in its cooling.
The front panel contains four status LEDs for power, downstream, upstream, and internet connectivity.
On the back panel, there are two 1Gbps Ethernet ports and one coaxial cable port. A power and a reset button are also located on the rear panel. The label is located on the bottom side which contains the modem model name, serial number, and MAC address.
The overall size (length, width, and height) of Netgear CM2000 is larger than that of its counterpart making it cover more space. SB8200 is heavier thus it is more difficult to handle.
Are they compatible?
- Internet Standards
These modems are installed with IPv6 support to ensure more reliable and greater access to numerous Internet websites.
- Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
Both these cable modems are certified by several well-known service providers including Cox, Spectrum, and XFINITY.
Both modems can be used for Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 (Service Pack 1), UNIX, Linux, and many other operating systems.
- Supported Browsers
These modems have access to many browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
Which device performs better?
Both these modems have the latest and up-to-date DOCSIS 3.1 version, therefore, providing higher internet speed.
When it comes to channel bonding, both of these once again share the same number of channels that is 32 for downstream and 8 for upstream allowing greater data transfer due to wider pathways.
The downloading speed of Netgear CM2000 is 2.5 Gbps meanwhile its counterpart has a downloading speed ranging up to 2 Gbps.
The powerful chipset of Broadcom installed in these modems allows lower latency thus ensuring quick data transfer.

Setup and Operation
CM2000 can be installed in the following steps:
- Join the coaxial cable in its respective port.
- Now attach the power adapter with the modem and press the power button.
- Standby until the modem comes online.
- Now join the Ethernet cable with the modem and computer.
- Restart the computer to get the modem started.
Setting up SB8200 is also quite simple and can be done in the following way:
- Join all the cables in their desired ports such as coaxial, ethernet and power adapter.
- Now activate the modem through its official website with the assistance of the service provider.
- Connect the router to finalize the installation procedure.
Both these modems are set up in almost a similar manner and are very compatible in enduring extreme environmental conditions.
However, the operating temperature of SB8200 is marginally higher compared to its rival as it can be easily operated at higher temperature situations.
