NETGEAR Nighthawk CM2000 vs Arris SURFboard SB8200

Both modems can be set up in an easy and simple way. The Netgear CM2000 provides a slightly higher downloading speed than that of its rival.

NETGEAR Nighthawk CM2000
NETGEAR Nighthawk CM2000 is a great looking cable modem, though looks are subjective.

On the other side, Arris SB8200 is heavier making it less efficient in terms of handling.

The overall performance of both these devices is almost identical.

Moreover, both modems are installed with compelling chipsets Broadcom BCM3390, which provides much higher safety from these cyber offenses.

The powerful chipset decides the security against cyber-crimes like data hacking or any other related issues.

In comparison to SB8200, CM2000 has a higher downloading speed, is more elegant in design, and is easier to handle because of lesser weight. However, it comes with a much more expensive price, lower warranty duration, and covers more space due to its larger size.

The Netgear CM2000 is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, the latest technology, enabling it to provide one of the fastest internet services.

This modern technology makes sure that it provides 2.5 times faster internet and 10 times higher downloading speed than that of the conventional DOCSIS 3.0 version.

There is a total of 32 downstream and 8 upstream channels in this modem enabling a downloading speed of up to 2.5 Gbps.

One 2.5 Gbps Multi-Gig Ethernet port and one WAN coaxial cable connection is present on the back panel.

On the other hand, the Arris SB8200, just like its counterpart, has the newest DOCSIS 3.1 version.

A total of 32 channels are available for downstream and 8 for upstream channels with a downloading speed of up to 2 Gbps.

The fast speed is perfectly suitable for streaming any 4K Ultra-HD video or any other Virtual Reality gaming. This modem is also equipped with two 1 Gbps Ethernet ports.

The installation process of this modem is also quite simple and easy as that of its peer.

Hardware and Design

Netgear CM2000 has a plane towered-shaped structure that gives it a high-performance look.

There is a total of five status LEDs on the front panel mainly for power, downstream, upstream, online, and Multi-Gig Port in the similar top to bottom order.

The rear panel has a power button and one reset button while there are two ports available one for coaxial wire connection and one for Ethernet port connection. The label present on the modem shows its login information, MAC address, and serial number.

SB8200, on the other hand, comes out in a plain plastic case with a matte finish.

A thick plastic band encases the rectangular centerpiece while the edges of the modem are a bit rounded. Numerous holes on the sidewall ensure proper airflow through the modem thus assisting it in its cooling.

The front panel contains four status LEDs for power, downstream, upstream, and internet connectivity.

On the back panel, there are two 1Gbps Ethernet ports and one coaxial cable port. A power and a reset button are also located on the rear panel. The label is located on the bottom side which contains the modem model name, serial number, and MAC address.

The overall size (length, width, and height) of Netgear CM2000 is larger than that of its counterpart making it cover more space. SB8200 is heavier thus it is more difficult to handle.
